The Story Behind Doppy

I was born to be very creative.

Creativity and art have been my passions since the first time I held a crayon and drew. It became a massive part of my life and my ultimate focus.

Art was my fuel, my priority, and my therapy. It helped me get through every difficult time in my life- and still does. When I was eleven years old, my parents filed for divorce. It was hard for me to understand and process. So, I did the only thing I knew that would help me get through it: create.

I started playing around with a block of pearlescent polymer clay. I started rolling and forming a teardrop-shaped figure. I added a curly-cue at the top and gave it beads for eyes. Right then and there, I named the figure "Doppy".

I thought it was cute, so I went and did what any other young kid would do after making something new: I showed it to my mom. My mom loved it and showed it to my dad. My dad started discussing the possibility of getting a patent or a trademark. I didn't care about any of that; I was just happy that they liked it.

Fast forward fifteen years: I graduated from high school with an art-focused education, became a single mother to my son, graduated from college, got a license in Cosmetology, and I still wasn't fulfilled.

After having my son, I remembered my childhood and what I wanted out of life as a kid. I wanted to be a children's book author and illustrator. I remembered Doppy. I knew what I needed to do.

I followed my childhood dreams and became everything I wanted to be. And this is just the beginning.

Thank you for being here and reading about my story. I genuinely appreciate it.
